As in the previous years, FIS remains true to the “Donations instead of gifts” philosophy to support unprivileged and vulnerable children. This year, FIS has decided to support UNICEF with a donation of 15,000 EUR. Mrs. Caroline Steimle, Head of Department Corporate Partnerships at UNICEF Germany, received the donation cheque from the FIS management board on December 7, 2020.
UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund and stands up for children in around 190 countries. With the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak, the living conditions for many children have considerably deteriorated in 2020, particularly in developing countries and refugee camps. For instance, lockdowns or partial lockdowns have prevented up to 1.6 billion girls and boys from attending school and having access to education. Moreover, the fight against Corona means a shortage of capacity for fighting other diseases.
The donation helps UNICEF provide these children with hygiene kits consisting of hand soap, disposable gloves and water buckets – an important basis for elementary hygiene. “The support of vulnerable children has always been a matter close to our hearts. Especially in this challenging year, we would like to make a small contribution to the future of these children with our donation,” explains Christian Lang, member of the FIS management board.
