Rösler Oberflächentechnik GmbH Success Story of a customer project

Rösler Oberflächentechnik is a third-generation family-run company and one of the leading providers of vibratory finishing and beam technology as well as solutions for postprocessing in the field of additive manufacturing. In the course of the planned S/4HANA transition, the company was faced with the task of further developing its logistics landscape in a future-proof manner as SAP WM will be discontinued. Together with FIS, Rösler implemented SAP EWM, integrated an AutoStore system and replaced the previous material flow computer with SAP MFS. Particular attention was paid to production supply as this is closely interlinked with logistics processes and day-to-day business at Rösler. The project demonstrates how established warehouse and provision processes can be gradually transferred to a new system architecture.
Industry
Mechanical engineering / surface technology
Company
approx. 300 customer deliveries/pick items per day
approx. 1,600 employees
Objective
Modernization of the logistics processes by implementing SAP EWM, integration of an AutoStore system
Technology
SAP EWM, AutoStore, SAP MFS
Challenges
- Discontinuation of SAP WM
- Discontinuation of the previous material flow computer as an additional project aim
- Ensuring that the existing status quo in logistics is at least reached
- High demands on production supply as this is closely interlinked with the warehouse processes
- Need to test complex and deeply integrated processes thoroughly
- Change in project scope during the implementation due to the decision to replace the automatic small parts storage area with an AutoStore system
- Skills shortage in logistics and the resulting pressure to increase efficiency and pick performance
Solution and customer benefits
- The implementation of SAP EWM has created a stable foundation for providing materials and components from different storage sections in a structured and reliable manner for production supply.
- Replacement of the previous non-SAP material flow computer with SAP MFS
- Creation of Business Blueprints for goods receipt, picking, packing and production staging
- Addition of the integration of an AutoStore system to the project scope
- Implementation of new UI5 dialogs for picking and packing for improved usability
- Conscious project strategy: dividing the transition into manageable steps and not everything at once
