How the mobile app FIS/LastMile modernizes the logistics processes at STARK Deutschland

06/03/2025
Unloading pallets, supplying building materials and documenting documents, notes and signatures for goods deliveries: with pen and paper in the past, today via smartphone or tablet. During its one-year pilot phase with the Raab Karcher, Muffenrohr and Melle Gallhöfer sales brands, STARK Deutschland was convinced by the advantages of the SAP-based FIS/LastMile goods delivery app so that it is now rolled out to the entire company. The digital and paperless documentation of goods deliveries ensures faster work processes with much more efficiency and makes “the last mile” fully transparent.

Digitalized goods delivery – fast, user-friendly, and customized

Delays in processing are a thing of the past thanks to digital goods delivery. Truck drivers now document all necessary information, such as the recipient’s signature upon handover, the storage location using photos of the delivered goods, or the time of delivery, using a mobile device in the FIS/LastMile goods delivery app. Additional information, such as the condition of the goods upon delivery, can also be added to the app. Since the app is connected via an interface to STARK Germany’s in-house SAP system, all recorded documents are automatically transferred to the system as delivery attachments via online communication and are immediately available. This makes it possible to see which goods have already been delivered and which are still being delivered. Planning follow-up trips, processing accounting tasks, or, for example, creating and sending invoices can be initiated directly.

“For us, for example, the digital delivery note returns in the form of a proof of delivery, including a photo function and GPS data, have been of the greatest benefit. The so-called collective signature for delivery note and tour mode, developed for STARK Germany, is also extremely practical. Now, the recipient no longer has to manually sign each delivery note individually; instead, one signature is sufficient for multiple deliveries if the recipient is the same,” says Christian Haas, SAP application consultant at STARK Germany, describing the improvements.

The simple and user-friendly operation of the FIS/LastMile mobile app also scored points with the project managers at the building materials retailer: “Simply logging in with one access, scanning the delivery note or entering the route number, and then directly downloading all deliveries for further processing is very convenient for our truck drivers,” explains Mathias Giesers, IT Project Manager for Digitalization at STARK Germany. FIS/LastMile was customized and further developed for STARK Germany because an additional function was required for further processing of the digital documents: data verification by the sales department, which makes it possible to check and, if necessary, correct data. “The FIS/LastMile app saves us a lot of time. We work much faster and more efficiently than before the switchover. The paperless documentation of our goods deliveries eliminates tasks such as the subsequent entry and scanning of documents. It’s so easy to use that our truck drivers appreciate its convenience,” explains Mathias Giesers. “We also have drivers from many different countries working for us. Our partner FIS’s application can also handle this multilingual challenge. The app is now tailored to the needs of our customers and ready for the next step—rollout to the entire company.”
