FAQ – frequently asked questions

When SAP refers to SAP Public Cloud (new: SAP Cloud ERP), it means the highly standardized cloud ERP variant based on a multi-tenant architecture. Several companies use a shared infrastructure while the data remains strictly separated from each other. This version is designed to be implemented quickly, keep costs predictable and provide new features regularly via automatic updates.

The new name of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is SAP Cloud ERP. The idea behind this is to make the name much clearer and to emphasize its benefits more strongly: a standardized cloud ERP that can be implemented quickly and covers central business processes as a digital backbone.

At the same time, the name fits better with the logic of SAP Business Suite, which is designed as a coherent offer of business applications, data and AI. SAP Cloud ERP forms the core to which additional components, such as extensions, integrations as well as data and AI functions, are connected to provide end-to-end support for processes.

SAP offers its cloud ERP in two versions tailored to different company requirements:

  • SAP Cloud ERP Private (formerly: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition) is based on a single-tenant architecture in which each company is provided with a dedicated system landscape. This variant is particularly suitable for companies with complex business processes and specific requirements. It enables in-depth adjustments, individual enhancements and customer-specific integrations that can be directly integrated into the cloud infrastructure. Companies retain a high degree of control over their system landscape, updates and integrations.
  • SAP Cloud ERP (formerly: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition) is based on a multi-tenant architecture, in which several companies share a joint infrastructure while their data remains strictly separated from each other. It is aimed at companies with clearly defined and standardized processes that prefer rapid implementation, lower costs and regular automatic updates.
