The SAP Analytics Cloud offers modern user interfaces on all end devices.

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) unites Business Intelligence, planning and enhanced analysis options, such as Predictive Analytics, in one central user interface. SAP Analytics Cloud is particularly characterized by a high-performance visual design of data, e.g. in the form of stories or dashboards.

SAP Analytics Cloud focuses on strategic reporting and its software-as-a-service offer is aimed primarily at management, controlling and accounting, but also marketing and HR. In all user departments, forecasts and decisions can be made using the application on the basis of up-to-date and correct data. To derive strategies and operational processes, dashboards and infographics can be put together intuitively with just a few clicks using the Drag&Drop function. SAP Analytics Cloud enables the use and presentation of real-time data for ad hoc analyses, which makes complicated visualization preparations unnecessary.

The cloud solution can be integrated consistently with SAP or partially with non-SAP systems. The powerful HANA in-memory technology makes data quickly available at any time and provides the optimal basis for the use of new technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.

SAP Analytics Cloud provides different data retention scenarios:

In case of an import connection, data is imported into the SAP Analytics Cloud solution, kept in data centers and accessed via an SSL-encrypted Internet connection. In this case, access to this data is possible in a mobile and flexible way. Users can access the data via mobile terminals while on the move or directly from the home office.

In the live connection scenario, the data flow exclusively takes place in the individual corporate network. Here, data can only be accessed from the secure corporate network or via a VPN connection. The live connection scenario as well enables very fast access to real-time data and high usability for the users within the company.

The live connection via cloud connector is a special form of live connection. Here, the data is called live from the Internet via the browser. For this purpose, the data is queried from the BW system and transferred via the cloud connector. Consequently, the user also has mobile access to the data outside the corporate network.

Excursus: the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform

SAP Analysis for Office

SAP BusinessObjects* represents an alternative for customers that mandatorily require an on-premises solution. Within the BusinessObjects portfolio, the BI Intelligence platform is used as a central hub for various front-end tools and applications. According to the individual objectives, it enables the formatting of data from the BI system in different forms, such as reports, dashboards, or predefined analyses for the end users. SAP Analysis for Office, for example, can be used for this purpose.

The SAP BusinessObjects BI platform is not installed on an SAP system. As an independent software component, it requires an individual server. Therefore, the resources in the SAP system are spared.

Operational gain in information through embedded analytics in real time

Embedded Analytics in SAP S/4HANA

The Embedded Analytics apps enable easy access to analytic applications. They are always available in every SAP S/4HANA system and enable an analysis of your operational data in real time.

The Embedded Analytics apps provide user departments at any time with required information through standardized access options to KPIs and reports. All this in your familiar working environment, i.e. the SAP Fiori launchpad. With minimum effort, corporate information is provided in highest data quality, which considerably supports decision-making and contributes to increased economy.

Besides the standard tiles and reports in the Fiori launchpad, additional SAP front-end tools offer various possibilities for providing the user departments with a corporate reporting. In this way, for instance, reports from individual data can be created in individually configured Fiori tiles.

Consistent data retention with SAP Business Warehouse Solutions

SAP Business Warehouse

The SAP Business Intelligence solutions enable data warehousing of various corporate data for comprehensive evaluations and reporting applications. SAP Business Warehouse (BW) also allows the connection of various third-party systems and can be used as single point of truth of all analytical data in your company.

For comprehensive and professional data warehousing requirements, SAP Business Warehouse on HANA (BW on HANA) or SAP BW/4HANA are the best solutions for your company. In an SAP S/4HANA system, Embedded Business Warehouse (BW) offers additional analysis options. As an integrated BW system, Embedded BW also supports ETL processes (extraction, transformation, load).

SAP BW on HANA is a data warehouse application based on the SAP NetWeaver platform technology and the advanced SAP HANA in-memory database. The strengths of the system lie in the immediately usable SAP Business Content, which not only enables predefined reporting but also completely freely definable reporting scenarios.

Various standard extractors enable the transfer of master and transaction data from every SAP business area to the data warehouse and the creation of the requested KPIs.

SAP BW/4HANA is SAP’s new strategic solution. The new development of the BW system has been optimized for HANA. The functional scope is largely identical with SAP BW on HANA. New developments, however, are only made for SAP BW/4HANA.

Using this software, information from other data sources can be formatted, harmonized and made available for analyses in addition to evaluations of SAP data.

Different approaches and migration paths can be used for the changeover from SAP BW on HANA to SAP BW/4HANA, ranging from a new greenfield implementation to the almost complete transfer of the existing reporting.

Embedded SAP BW offers an inexpensive “system in the system” solution for a moderate use. In the reporting, Embedded SAP BW can be used to gain greater transparency and flexibility than in the standard apps.

However, SAP S/4HANA and Embedded SAP BW share the hardware resources, such as working memory and CPU, as well as the software-based batch and dialog processes.

Embedded SAP BW enables an access to a reporting that also permits the storage of historical datasets and comparisons. It is possible to implement an individual and independent authorization concept that can exclusively be tailored to reporting.

FAQ on SAP Analytics

With SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP offers a platform that enables the quick creation and visualization of reportings, analyses and plans. The cloud-based solution provides all users with a central access from the desktop and mobile terminals. SAP Analytics Cloud cannot only use independent data models but it can also be used as front end for other SAP sources, such as SAP BW/4HANA.

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is mainly suitable for companies that lay a strong focus on graphical reporting, i.e. for users who would like to visualize their reporting. Moreover, SAP Analytics Cloud can also be the suitable software solution for Excel-based working with the support of Analysis-for-Office. The Analytics Cloud solution is also suitable for users who rely on an advanced web-based planning front end. Furthermore, SAC is a self-service tool that can also be used to analyze non-SAP data.

The SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) solution can be used for analyzing any kind of SAP business areas as well as for any data of third parties. Currently, there are approximately 40 defined data sources that can be connected automatically. It is also possible to import Excel or CSV files via a file server. Prerequisite: the data must be structured. Since the tool is web-based, it enables company-wide and easy access.

It may make sense to use a separate BW system (SAP BW/4HANA) in addition to SAP S/4HANA because a modern user interface as well as numerous additional analysis tools enable a more user-friendly analysis of data.

Moreover, a BW system can be used for separate data retention, i.e. the analysis processes do not access the same tables of the production system, but to tables optimized for analysis purposes. This may be useful if, in addition to operational data, further data is to be consolidated and historically evaluated.

SAP BW on HANA is the connection between the old and the new world. It concerns the old Business Warehouse based on the SAP HANA database. Direct data access can be made through in-memory data retention in the working memory. Moreover, a column-based storage of tables is made for analytical evaluations.

SAP BW/4HANA is a completely new development. It is a strategic SAP product, which is permanently further developed. In contrast to SAP BW on HANA, for which the extended support will currently expire in 2030 at the latest, there is no such end of maintenance date for SAP BW/4HANA at the moment.
